Mounjaro

Despite the media reports that Mounjaro is now available under the NHS, we would like to advise that this will only apply to a limited group of patients who meet the strict criteria. If you do not meet the criteria, the GP will not issue you a prescription.

The criteria to qualify for GP prescribed Mounjaro is very strict.

Please see the eligibility criteria a below:

  • Aged 18 years and over
  • Your BMI must be above 50 or 37.5+ if from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background.

You can check BMI on the NHS website if you know your height and weight. We will check this at the appointment so it must be accurate.

As well as a BMI over40/37.5 you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least 4 out of the five health conditions:

  • Hypertension needing medication
  • Sleep apnoea confirmed at a sleep clinic
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Hypercholesterolaemia

Please do not contact the surgery requesting Mounjaro; appointments for weight loss injections will only be for those who are eligible.

Keep our phone lines free for those in medical need.
