Prescriptions

Information:

All prescriptions are now ordered via your NHS account through either the NHS website or in the NHS or Patient Access apps, or via your nominated pharmacy.

Please get your online access set up to avoid delays in your medication. We will no longer be able to accept paper form requests for medication. Requests over the telephone will only be accepted for elderly patients.

Please request your medication 1 week prior to running out of tablets.

Ordering Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are issued for either 1 or 2 months.

Please request your medication 1 week prior to running out of tablets in one of the following ways:

Medication requested too early may be declined. Should you have any queries regarding your medication please do not hesitate to contact one of our care navigators.

Medication requests over the phone for our elderly patients

We only accept repeat prescription requests over the phone from elderly patients.

Emergency Prescriptions

Use this service to request a limited emergency supply of a medicine you’ve completely run out of.

This must be a medicine you are prescribed regularly, through a repeat prescription.

Collecting your Prescription

Information:

You can usually collect your prescription 3 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • On the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions.
  • At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions.

Questions about your Prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

About Pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • Coughs.
  • Colds.
  • Sore throats.
  • Tummy trouble.
  • Aches and pains.

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a Pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.

Help the NHS to reduce medicines waste – ‘together we can make a difference’

The local NHS is urging patients to carry out simple tasks to help reduce medicines waste. These include checking how much prescription medication you have at home before ordering more and checking the expiry date on your medicines.

You can also get advice from a pharmacist around prescription medicines. From September, patients can join a Digital Café across Bucks, Oxon and Berks West for support and advice on using the NHS App to order your prescription medication – for details on times and locations of these Digital Cafés see here.

For further tips and advice visit the StayWellBOB website which includes five short videos on how to reduce medicines waste.
